Jiufen is a small village in the mountains located an hour's drive from Taipei. It is one of the most popular day trips from Taipei City. Which is famous for its similarity to the village from the Japanese animated movie City of Sadness and Spirited Away.
The town of Jiufen (also spelled Jioufen or Chiufen) is an old seaside gold mining town that was revived by tourism in the 1990s, and now lots of people come here for the street markets, good food, tea, and neat photo ops.

Walk along the Jiufen Old Street
The Jiufen Old Street is a narrow alleyway lined up with small food stalls, tea houses, souvenir shops, and pottery stores.This alley specifically will be jam-packed with people, since it’s the main thing to do in Jiufen. Some top foods to try are the braised pork rice, squid kabobs, mango ice cream, taro balls, Japanese mochi, and Taiwanese bubble tea.
Enjoy a Tea Set at Amei Teahouse

This traditional teahouse with its rows of windows and paper lanterns is the most famous view in Jiufen. From their balcony, you can admire the picturesque view in front of you, Keelung Mountain to the right and Northern shores of Taiwan on the left.

Braised Pork Rice (Lu Rou Fan) is a very simple but comforting dish, consisting of small cubes of braised pork marinated in thick, dark gravy sauce, served over piping hot steamed rice.

Taro Ball Soup is one of the most famous snacks/desserts in Jiufen. The taro balls are famous because they are the perfect chewy texture – not too soft and not too hard. You can have it steamed hot or served cold over ice with kidney beans.
A-zhu Peanut Ice Cream is yet another item you must have in Jiufen. Located on the main old street. It is basically a thin crepe-like layer filled with ground peanuts, balanced with two scoops of ice cream, and cilantro on top. Super delicious!
Golden Waterfall

One of the most famous attractions in the Jiufen and Jinguashi area is the visually stunning Golden Waterfall. The waterfall bed's unique color is the result of all the heavy metal deposits in the area.
